At the beginning of the article, the authors describe the Rico is a “Player”, he was good at dancing and known how to seize the minds of girls, and be welcomed by the girls, these were out of our minds for Asian-Americans, why? Because in our minds: Asian-Americans should be very shy, low self-esteem, introverted, and there are barriers for others. However Rico is not only be accepted, even welcomed by the girls, I personally think that when the authors describe the details about how the Rico pursuits of girls, how the Rico dance, there are some Envy and jealousy in it.In the article the author was a more traditional people, get a good education and will be go to college, after graduated find a stable job, have a good income, without many love experience but get married with someone and have few children.
But everyone's values, lifestyles are different, There will be a number of objective factors that influence it. Such as family education, living environment, personal character. You can’t use your values to judge other people. It reminds me of one of my favorite song, I’m what I am, the lyrics inside is beautiful, I’m what I am, The different color of fireworks.
Some people pay their lives for the Truth, Some people die of poverty for Arts. Some people in order to survive were betraying their country. Everyone is different cause you can’t find anything are 100% same. The meaning of the life in my mind is when the moment you will be die, you look back whole your life without regrets.
Human nature has two sides like the light and dark. There is very Academy Award for best drama movie: Crash. There is a role in the film has proved this truth, A white police as some misunderstanding on daily life discriminate against blacks. In one time of no need check in for a black woman, He sexual harassment of the woman. But soon the black women has an accident , the white police rescued her. Just like the end of the Rico. Although he maybe a bad guy in his daily life but die for their country in the end. How could you say he is a bad people?
Follow your own course, and let people talk. You have the right to choose your own lifestyle.
In my opinion, I wouldn’t think Rico as a bad person, he might not behave in some ways, but he is not bad to the point of killing people or doing some serious crimes that could harm the whole community. In contrast, he actually decided to serve the military for his country.
回复删除For me, Rico has a lot of traits that really represents himself as Filipino and obviously the good sides, such as excellent singing and dancing skills. I knew that he had met and slept with many girls, but he wasn’t forced those girls to sleep with him, right? So I would rather say he abuses his gifted talents and muscular body in such a wrong way.
I agree with you that everyone has his or her right to choose his/her life, and it was pretty much mentioned from the story. Rico decided that he won’t go to college and he thinks that the easiest way to survive is to join the military and that is the life and destiny he chose. However, I felt bit sympathy to the Buddy, he seems to be the one who has no dream, he admires Rico very much and that makes him wanted to be with him all the time. He doesn’t want to think about his future thoroughly, instead he just thinks about how to be with Rico all the time.
